Preparing For Our Destiny

Introduction: Gen.1:26-28:

I. God has a Destiny for our Life:
* Jer.1: 5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.”
* Jer. 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”
* I Cor.2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
Gen.37: 5-11 Joseph knew he had a destiny- God gave him dreams.
Luke 2:47-49 Jesus knew He had a destiny. We have a destiny, too.

II. Destiny will require our Discipline:

A. Discipline in God’s Word-
* Read the Bible right through each year; a chapter of Proverbs daily.
* Ps.1:1-3, Joshua 1:8: “meditate day and night …then you will have success.”
B. Discipline in prayer – Prov.15:29 “The Lord…hears the prayer of the righteous.”
C. Discipline in praise – Ps.150:6 “Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord.”
D. Discipline in maintaining a godly attitude and lifestyle – Phil.2:5
E. Discipline in submitting to God’s plan.

i ) God is more concerned for our character than our comfort.
Things will not always go, according to our plans.
a) Joseph’s brothers turned on him, betrayed him, and sold him.
* He was unjustly accused, imprisoned and was forgotten (Gen.40:23)
b) Job lost all 10 of his children, and all of his great wealth. (Job 1:3)
c) Ruth was widowed, with no children, and left impoverished.
d) Jesus Christ was betrayed, denied, abandoned, beaten, whipped, unlawfully found guilty, and executed.

ii) Let joyful obedience to God, be your regular habit.
 a) Joseph got on faithfully with his tasks in life -Gen.39:21-23
 b) Job trusted in the Lord -Job 13:15
 c) Ruth went out to support herself -Ruth 2:2-3
 d) Jesus submitted to His parents, and His heavenly Father: Luke 2:51-52; Jn.8:29

* “The Son of God goes forth to war,
A Kingly crown to gain;
His blood-red banner streams afar:
Who follows in His train?
Who best can drink His cup of woe,
Triumphant over pain,
Who patient-bears the cross below,
He follows in His train.”
Reginald Heber, from “Don’t Waste Your Sorrows,”  by Paul Billheimer.

III. Discipline will lead to Dominion:
Luke 16:10 -11: Faithful with a little thing? God will give you more!
(Florence Nightingale began her nursing ministry, with an injured dog.)
* Joseph went from being a prisoner in gaol, to Prime Minister of Egypt. (Ps.105:20-22)
* Job subsequently had 10 more children, and got a double portion of all his wealth.
* Ruth married Boaz, a wealthy Israelite, and became an ancestor of our Lord.
* Jesus Christ, now resurrected, is now “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” (Phil.2: 9-11)

Conclusion:
God has a Destiny for our lives.
Destiny requires our Discipline.
Discipline will lead to Dominion.

Prepare now, for the destiny God has for you!

“If you diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.” Deut.28:1
